SNOWDROP

This fragile snowdrop
pioneers the path of spring.
Its lucent corolla suspends
from the merest stalk;
Obeisant, not thrustful,
yet bearing in its slender thread
the strength
of all things in between.

Meridian of earth and heaven’s force,
this rimy exhalation of Winter’s breath
is a fuse to the charge that explodes
all of Summer’s glory.
