Author Joan Warren: Poetry – When I Die

WHEN I DIE

When I die – give away
what’s left of me
so in memory, I can stay.
Love never leaves.

Give me away to children and the old
who are waiting to heal or die
so their lives can forward unfold.
Love spreads; it never leaves.

And if you need to cry for sadness felt.
Share with your sister, brother, or friends
who walk beside you to the end.
Love heals; it never leaves.

And when you leave me, put your arms
around anyone, and give them what you need to
give to me – the hug of Love.
Love never leaves.

I want to leave you something special,
Something better than words or sounds.
Feel the Love, be the Love; let emotions calm.
Love never leaves.

Look for me in the people I knew or loved.
And if you cannot give me away, at least
know that I may have flown to the stars,
but Love never leaves.

Let those you love to see in your eyes
the Love I saw in them and your mind.
Let them know that Love never dies,
and Love never leaves.

You can love me the most
by touching hand-to-hand and hugging body to body,
Showing compassion and understanding.
Love never leaves.

And always remember, Love doesn’t die,
people do, so I ask this exceptional request
that when all that is left of me is Love
GIVE IT AWAY – give me away.
