Author Joan Warren: Poetry – Goodbye Dream On
Near the end of June 2009, my husband and I heard the Cardiologist say, “I’m sorry, you qualify for the heart operation, but you have stage four, advanced prostate cancer. You will not live long enough for us to operate, and we can do nothing.

I wrote this poem for my husband during the last eight days of his life, and he died in August 2009.
Many poems have followed, and I will share them; that’s a promise – no matter how difficult.
I hope and pray that the healing of grief will come to the readers as it did to me.
There is a saying, ‘Time heals all wounds,’ but I add to it – only if you work on releasing and letting go by shifting your thoughts to love, trust, forgiveness, understanding, compassion, and empathy.
None of us are perfect. We are the best we can be right now. When a feeling is unwelcome, learn to honor it for a moment and then let it go, replacing it with your wonderful inner being’s thoughts, understanding, caring, and actions.
MEMORIES FLOW – 2009

GOODBYE, DREAM ON
Dream as you sleep.
– See the way.
Let your heart be at peace.
– Be so still.
Your spirit will soar on its way.
– A promise made.
You’ll know freedom.
– Soul in heaven.
You’ll be where you belong.
– You will be led
all the way.
that’s a promise.
Your family is at peace.
We trust you to know how
to let your spirit soar
and your heart be still.
You’ll know such freedom
as your soul lives
enraptured, fetterless and free.
That’s a promise.
You gave of your heart’s
rich overflow.
You trusted and loved
this family of mine.
You’ve enriched our lives.
We are grateful.
You’ll travel on, but not alone
and not with us.
Comfort and abundance
are yours to savor.
We are sad but grateful.
I love you – we love you
Be at peace.
Dream on, my dear.
You are in control,
– let your body free.
